The Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) lists 11 projects in their database. This number is however only reflecting the projects that have registered themselves on the database. The ecovillage database contains ecovillage projects of all sizes and in all stages of development.[1]
The ecovillages in Bulgaria are organized in the Bulgarian Ecovillage Network (BEN).[2]
BEN is also a full member of GEN-Europe, the European branch of the Global Ecovillage Network.

In 2014 a declaration expressed the potential important role that social enterprises can play in regards to sustainable development, and the Road Map “Promoting and developing social entrepreneurship in Bulgaria” was developed.[3]
Initiatives & projects
- The Bulgarian Food Bank was founded in 2012 by 9 organizations and companies and "assists the food industry and social welfare organisations to save and share their food resources and broaden access to food aid in Bulgaria".[4]
